Shannon Christianson has an active career as a music educator and performer. She is the recipient of music scholarships to Arizona State University, Brevard Music Center, and the University of Southern California where she received her Master of Music degree as a student of Jim Walker. Shannon has been a featured soloist and performed with many ensembles including the Scottsdale Symphony Orchestra, Tempe Wind Ensemble, Brevard Festival Orchestra, Pasadena Lyric Opera, Torrance Symphony, American Youth Symphony, and is a member of the recording ensemble Resonance Flute Consort.
She has served on the faculty of Northern Arizona University’s Preparatory Music Program, New Village Charter High School in Los Angeles, and Laguna Niguel Junior Academy in Laguna Niguel, CA. Highly sought after as an instructor, Shannon has maintained a private teaching studio for more than twenty five years. Her students have won positions in several youth orchestras including Colburn Youth Symphony and Asian American Youth Symphony, have been granted college music scholarships, and regularly win local competitions. In 2014, Shannon founded Community Chamber Music in partnership with Eric Anderson. Community Chamber Music's mission is to create joy through music by supporting the artistic, social and emotional development of youth through classical chamber performance, community service, and training under premiere level performing musicians in Southern California.
The benefits of studying music extend well beyond the joy of playing an instrument and sharing your talent. Whether learning through private instruction or as a member of an ensemble/class, students gain confidence, expand non-verbal communication skills, develop focus and dedication, learn to collaborate and take accountability, and advance their creativity.
